Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal is a dental procedure that involves the removal of a soft part of the tooth which is called the pulp. The pulp is made up of nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels that help the tooth grow. Mostly in all cases dentist will do the treatment of the root canal by giving anesthesia to the patient.
In simple word, root canal treatment is a procedure of tooth cleaning in which dentist removed the damaged pulp of the tooth and clean that area of the tooth and in last seal that area of the tooth.
The procedure of a Root Canal Treatment
Step-1. The dentist will give the local anesthesia through a needle to numb the area and tooth. And this might feel a little tease and keep the area dry and clean during treatment, the dentist will place a small sheet which is made up of rubber called a dam, after numbing the tooth area.
Step-2. To examine the inside part of the tooth, the dentist will make an opening by a small drill on the top part of the tooth. After that dentist will clean the harmed and infected pulp from the tooth using files and to remove the chance of infections from the area, the dentist will give a solution of an antimicrobial to that area.
Step-3. After cleaning and drying the tooth area, the tooth opening will be closed by filling ( material made up of rubber), and filling the opening area is a temporary aid.
Step-4. The final treatment is done by placing the crown on the filling area or any other kind of restoration.
How successful is Root Canals Treatment?
Root canal therapy is a specialized operation that will preserve the natural tooth, enabling it to remain usable for decades or even a lifetime. However, not all teeth are the same, so the results of root canal therapy will differ greatly. Let’s discuss what root canal therapy is, why you can need it, and what main factors affect the effectiveness of the root canal.
Root canals, or endodontic care, are required to preserve a tooth where the dental pulp is damaged or inflamed. When the pulp tissue, composed of blood vessels, connective tissues, and nerves, dies, the infection will spread to the tooth. To fix this, the endodontist would extract the infected pulp and clean it, form it, disinfect it, and repair the root canals so that they do not get infected in the future.
Root canal operation is a delicate and careful procedure. If at all possible, it’s best to have an accomplished endodontist, like Dr. Shoaib Syed of FDOC Pune (Family Dental and Orthodontic Centre) doing the root canal. Endodontics has advanced experience since they have completed 2-3 additional years of preparation to successfully detect and manage tooth pain.
Root canal treatment is generally effective in preserving the tooth and curing the infection. Around 9 out of 10 root-treated teeth last for 8 to 10 years. Getting a crown on the tooth after root canal operation is critical for enhancing the survival rate of the teeth. Your treated tooth can last for a long time if you keep your teeth clean.

The survival of your tooth depends on a number of factors, including:
(i) Early treatment
Like all health issues, the faster you assess and diagnose deterioration, the better the outcome. A tooth in which the infection has already spread into the pulp is at a higher risk of re-infection than one in which the infection is localized in the pulp. Keeping up your daily dental appointments as well as seeing the dentist at the first sign of abnormality in dental spots or pain may improve the chances of early diagnosis.
(ii) Teeth Complications
Front teeth with their roots and canals are much simpler to reach and handle than a back molar with an intricate root canal network. Root canals can also be very narrow, making them easy to bypass during care. In cases such as this, the experience and specialized tools of the endodontist who is a specialist in root canal therapy will greatly improve the chances of success in difficult circumstances.
(iii) The Aging Process
Teeth wear off over time and become more porous, making them more vulnerable to fracturing. Previous root canal operation on an aged tooth can also increase the risk of fracture. To prevent this, it is necessary for the tooth to obtain a crown after the operation to protect the tooth not only from re-infection but from undue stress while chewing. In certain cases, you need to put a bonded composite post inside the tooth to give it extra protection.
